Slam Lock vs Slam Cam
For many years, a number of Ritherdon Meter Boxes & Door and Frames Units have been fitted with a Slam Lock as shown below.
The Slam Lock is designed to be opened using a Tri-Key then can be pushed shut to ensure the door is closed properly without the reuse of the key. The down side to using this lock has always been the need to insert studs into the door to affix the lock to it, which is another operation in the manufacturing process. Another downside to using this type of lock is a 19mm circular keyhole cut into the door which means the door is made for this lock only and when higher security locks have been requested a need to re-manufacture stock as a special and extending the available lead time.
Early in 2018 a decision was made to upgrade these locks to a Slam Cam as shown below.
The Slam Cam works the same way as the Slam Lock were it can be pushed shut to ensure the door is closed properly without the reuse of the key. The upside to using this lock is its a Quadra D shape body that fits into our standard 20mm lock hole, with no need to add an extra operation of inserting any studs. If a higher security lock is needed this can be changed out in a matter of minutes before dispatch. We also feel this is a better quality lock and its chrome finish makes the products look much better.
