Ritherdon have been manufacturing various enclosures probably since the 1940's and, up until the 1990's, had only used stainless steel for special circumstances where the extra cost could be justified.  However, in the late 1990's, when the cheaper, ferritic stainless known as 3Cr12 was specified as EN1.4003 in Europe, Ritherdon saw its potential as a cost effective and superior material for external enclosures. All Ritherdon Meter Boxes, Meter Box Repairs, Pillars & Cabinets are fitted with 8mm Tri Key Cam Locks as standard. Tri Key Cam Lock Though this is suitable and opened with a wildly available standardised tri-key for easy access by 3rd party contractors such as meter readers or power network companies, in some applications such as CCTV or Traffic Controls this isn't very secure.
